YAZ / Yasmin / Ocella Information

What are YAZ, Yasmin, and Ocella?

YAZ and Yasmin are birth control pills, or oral contraceptives, manufactured by Bayer HealthCare Pharmaceuticals, Inc. Ocella is the generic equivalent of Yasmin; Ocella is manufactured by Barr Laboratories. Each of these birth control pills contain ethinyl estradiol and the new “fourth generation” progestin drospirenone (DRSP). Drospirenone is already well-known for increasing the risk for hyperkalemia. However, these DRSP oral contraceptives have also been associated with adverse side effects such as:

• Blood Clots
• Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT)
• Pulmonary Embolism (PE)
• Stroke
• Cerebrovascular Accidents
• Heart Attack
• Myocardial Infarction
• Death

Are The Current Warnings About Blood Clot Side Effects Associated With YAZ, Yasmin, and Ocella Sufficient?

Although the package inserts for YAZ, Yasmin, and Ocella carry a “black box” warning for the increased risk of hyperkalemia associated with these birth control pills, any warnings for the associated blood clot risks are found in only regular print. Now lawsuits are being filed on behalf of women who used these birth control pills alleging there has been a failure to warn about the increased risk of blood clots.

Birth Control Pill YAZ Being Reviewed For Increased Risk Of Blood Clots And Serious Side Effects

YAZ is an oral contraceptive, or birth control pill, which combines the new "fourth generation" progestin drospirenone (DRSP) and ethinyl estradiol. YAZ has been associated with several dangerous side effects such as deep vein thrombosis (DVT), pulmonary embolism (PE), heart attacks, and strokes.

Blood Clot Side Effects Have Long Been A Safety Issue For Yasmin And Its Generic Version, Ocella

Soon after the Yasmin birth control pill was approved in 2000 there were reports of pulmonary embolism (PE) and deep vein thrombosis (DVT).  As a result in 2002 general practitioners in The Netherlands were warned against prescribing Yasmin over the well-known second generation birth control pills.

YAZ, Yasmin, and Ocella Class Actions

We believe that people who suffered a serious injury or death due to the YAZ, Yasmin, or Ocella oral contraceptive pills are better served when an individual lawsuit is filed on their behalf. A serious injury or death case should not be filed as part of any YAZ, Yasmin, or Ocella class action together with the claims of many other people who may have had different injuries caused by these birth control pills.

Legal Compensation for YAZ, Yasmin, and Ocella Injuries

If you experienced serious side effects from the use of YAZ, Yasmin, or Ocella, or a person died due to an adverse reaction while taking YAZ, Yasmin, or Ocella birth control pills, you may have a claim for legal compensation. Legal compensation claims involving injuries or death caused by the use of YAZ, Yasmin, or Ocella are made by filing a lawsuit in court. All states have statutes of limitations that determine the time period allowed to file a YAZ, Yasmin, or Ocella lawsuit.
