Remicade Warning about Tuberculosis
Remicade's manufacturer has warned doctors about numerous cases of tuberculosis (TB) as well as other serious infections resulting from Remicade therapy. In an October 5, 2001 Dear Doctor letter, doctors were informed about a Black Box Warning put on the Remicade label which includes this statement:
Tuberculosis (frequently disseminated or extrapulmonary at clinical presentation), invasive fungal infections, and other opportunistic infections, have been observed in patients receiving REMICADE. Some of the infections have been fatal (see WARNINGS).
Soon thereafter an October 18, 2001 Dear Doctor letter warned about heart disease deaths associated with Remicade therapy.
Remicade was introduced in the United States during August 1998.
Remicade is manufactured by Centocor, a part of Johnson & Johnson Incorporated.
