Meridia Information

What is Meridia?

Meridia is the name under which Abbott Laboratories markets a prescription diet medication generically called sibutramine. The drug is also sold as Reductil, Reduxade, and Ectiva in Europe. Sibutramine has been under much scrutiny of late because health agencies in Italy, France, the United Kingdom, Canada, and the United States have expressed safety concerns about Meridia.

Meridia Side Effects Victims Rising
Public Citizen again urges FDA to ban diet drug Meridia, due to rising numbers of deaths and cardiovascular adverse effects attributable to Meridia.

Is Meridia an unsafe drug?
In March 2002, safety concerns were expressed about Meridia in the United States and Europe.

Sibutramine banned by Italian Health Ministry

FDA Warns Abbott about Reporting Meridia Deaths

Meridia Suspension Reversed in Europe
FDA Safety Review Continues in US. Abbott still awaits a review of Meridia (sibutramine) by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

Meridia Class Actions
