Gianvi Information

What is Gianvi?

Gianvi, a generic version of YAZ, is from Teva Pharmaceuticals and Barr Laboratories.

Gianvi birth control pills contain ethinyl estradiol and the new "fourth generation" progestin drospirenone (DRSP).

The only other birth control pills, or oral contraceptives, which contain ethinyl estradiol and drospirenone are:

YAZ and Yasmin from Bayer HealthCare Pharmaceuticals, Inc.;

Ocella from Teva Pharmaceuticals and Barr Laboratories;

Zarah from Watson Pharmaceuticals; and,

Loryna and Syeda from Sandoz, Inc.

In addition, there are Beyaz, which contains the same estrogen-progestin combination as YAZ plus 0.451 mg of levomefolate calcium, and Safyral, which contains the same estrogen-progestin combination as Yasmin plus 0.451 mg of levomefolate calcium.  These DRSP / drospirenone-containing birth control pills are from Bayer HealthCare Pharmaceuticals, Inc.

These birth control pills with DRSP have been associated with various adverse side effects, such as:

Ocella, Yasmin, YAZ, Gianvi, Zarah, Loryna, Syeda, Beyaz, And Safyral Can Cause Pulmonary Embolism, Deep Vein Thrombosis, Stroke, And Heart Attack

Some medical journal articles are linking certain oral contraceptives, such as Ocella, Yasmin, Zarah, Syeda, YAZ, Gianvi, Loryna, Beyaz, and Safyral to pulmonary embolism (PE) and deep vein thrombosis (DVT). These birth control pills each contain drospirenone (DRSP), a unique progestin which causes an increased risk of thromboembolism, or blood clot, side effects when compared to older oral contraceptives (OCs). Estrogen and DRSP create a potentially life-threatening combination due to their coagulative effects.

How And Why YAZ, Yasmin, Ocella, Gianvi, Zarah, Loryna, Syeda, Beyaz, And Safyral Pills Might Cause A Higher Rate Of Blood Clots In Women

All hormonal birth control options are associated with some health risks. However, the oral contraceptive pills YAZ, Yasmin, Ocella, Gianvi, Zarah, Loryna, Syeda, Beyaz, and Safyral have the distinction of being associated with a possible higher rate of blood clots which can cause serious side effects – namely, stroke, heart attack, pulmonary embolism, and deep vein thrombosis. The obvious questions are “How?” and “Why?”.

Are The Current Warnings About Blood Clot Side Effects Associated With YAZ, Yasmin, Ocella, Gianvi, Zarah, Loryna, Beyaz, And Safyral Sufficient?
Although the package inserts for YAZ, Yasmin, Ocella, Gianvi, Zarah, Loryna, Syeda, Beyaz, and Safyral carry a bolded warning for the increased risk of hyperkalemia associated with these birth control pills, any warnings for the associated blood clot risks are found in only regular print. Now lawsuits are being filed on behalf of women who used these birth control pills alleging there has been a failure to warn about the increased risk of blood clots.

Oral Contraceptives Such As YAZ, Yasmin, Ocella, Gianvi, Zarah, Loryna, Syeda, Beyaz, And Safyral Found To Increase The Risk For Gallbladder Disease
Increasingly, medical studies are finding a clear and formidable link between hormonal contraceptive pills like YAZ, Yasmin, Ocella, Gianvi, Zarah, Loryna, Syeda, Beyaz, and Safyral and gallbladder complications. These gallbladder injuries, such as acute cholecystitis, often end in gallbladder removal surgery, or cholecystectomy.

Pulmonary Embolism And Deep Vein Thrombosis: Symptoms, Treatment, and Recovery

For women who are using estrogen-progestin methods of birth control -- such as YAZ, Yasmin, Ocella, Gianvi, Zarah, Loryna, Syeda, Beyaz, and Safyral -- here is some important information about symptoms, treatment and recovery from a blood clot, which is a serious, potentially fatal side effect of these birth control products.
